FAQ About Basic Knowledge of Power Bank

What is power bank?

Power bank serve as an extra battery’ or external charger for your phone or other electronic devices. It is a portable power source built of rechargeable battery, packed in a small case that can be carried in a handbag or purse. It has at least one input for charging and another recharging port that can be connected to a standard USB cable that can recharge portable electronic devices like smart-phones, media players and tablet PCs.

Most of the newest power-bank models, arrive with built-in Lithium polymer battery, which known by high efficiency and long lifetime.

How do I know which power bank suits my device?

Depending on individual needs and requirements, there are several general criteria to consider when selecting a power bank:

a) Capacity

For example if your phone battery is 1500mAh and is 0% now, a power bank with 2200mAh can charge your phone 1 time. If your phone battery is 3000mAh and is 0% now, a power bank with 2200mAh will not be able to charge your phone to full because the phone battery capacity is higher than the power bank. If you require a power bank that is able to charge your phone several times, you need a power bank with higher capacity.

b) Number of output

1 output to charge 1 device, 2 outputs to charge 2 devices.

c) Output specification

1A-1.5A output is generally for smart-phones, 1.5A-2.0A output is generally for tablets.

How long do I need to charge the power bank?

It’s depending on the REAL CAPACITY of the power bank. The larger REAL CAPACITY, the longer charging time may required. Different charging methods may result different charging time as well. Charging with the original charger will be faster than charging with computer USB port.

How do I charge the power bank?

You can charge your power bank via the charger that came with your phone, computer USB port or using other power bank.

What is the lifespan of the power bank?

Generally, a properly maintained power bank can retain up to 80-90% of its original capacity at 400-500 charge and discharge cycle (charge then discharge = 1 cycle, regardless of whether you charge/ discharge it partially or fully). Until your power bank no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs, you may choose to purchase a new one.

Where to buy power bank?

Buy power bank online you can choose Tattu 10400mah power bank, the capacity in fact is 10800mah, and use Lithium Polymer battery cell, high weight and high quality. Gens ace 520mah 2s and 3s Lipo battery for MINI FPV Racing Drones

Tattu GENS ACE 520mah 30C / 60C 2s 7.4v & 3s 11.1V are one of the best quality LIPO that we can buy for mini drones between 70-120 size. GENS ACE also is manufacturing well knowed batteries Tattu which are one of the best on the market like SLS or Bonka. These high class lipo are not a joke, it provides the best power I ever seen, if you never try it then do it & you will never back to old ones.

Box & Store voltage

Gens ACE batteries will come well packed:

Also storage voltage is on great level when we check them out of the box.

They looks delicious

Batteries got ling JST cable and looks really good, this batteries are really good because even power cable has extra heat shrink to prevent damage.

Discharge rate & Capacity & Cycles

If Gens Ace / Tattu wrote down that battery got 30/60C then this nuber are true, at some chinese or turnigy batteries we can find 50-100C but in most acses these batteries can’t even reach half of this rate…OK, let’s do some math, to know what is dicharge rate we have to mutiple capacity 520 by discharge rate 30C and the result is 15,600mA

Continous discharge rate is 520mah(0.52A) x 30C = 15600mA (15.6A ), burst is 60c so 31,2A which is Super score because mini drones in most cases can’t take more than 25A .

These batteries are BEAST, I been able to pump in 565mah ! ( from 3.2V to 4.2 ).

Ofcourse this is nothing new because usually in these batteries capacity is higher than showed on label.

Cycle life span should be not less than 200 if you will charge these batteries under 1C, best one will 0,5C.

Size and weight

Weight for 2s GENS ACE 520mah is only 28g which is great score compare to capacity and discharge rate, while 3s GENS ACE 520mah is literally a fat cow ( 44grams ).

Size for 2s is 24x15x45mm & for 3s is 24x22x45mm . Here you can see a size difference:

Usage & flight test

2s GENS ACE 520mah works delicious, drone has good punch but still BOLT battery is mouch powerful to go due to Super high discharge rate 65-130C.

3s GENS ACE 520mah has really great punch BUT is way too heavy. 44grams is too much for small drones so most of extra energy is used to hover and just a bit for a bit more noticable fun. So best choice will be 3s 300mah and at least 45/90c but good luck to find it…. If you still want more power today then buy BOLD batteries from turnigy with Unholy C rating 65-130.

Price

2s and 3s GENS ACE 520mah have different price, if you have interesting in 520mAh 2s lipo and 520mAh 3s lipo battery, you can chick it: http://www.genstattu.com. So as you see price is low compare to quality.

lipo battery pack construction

LiPo is a short way of saying Lithium Polymer batteries, Lipo batteries are packaged generally in prismatic pouch made of some plastic polymers. These batteries are known for their exceptional “boost discharge capabilities”. Lithium polymer batteries are labeled nnC where nn is a number. For example a 1000mAH Lipo battery with 50C label is capable of supplying 50 Amperes of current for a fixed time. Lipo is lighter in weight and hence is more energy dense than Lithium Ion batteries. You will find these batteries in toys where weight is a constraint e.g. flying toys for kids, toy quad-copters, heli, airplanes etc. But what is the basic construction of a LiPo battery? The lipo battery construction is as follows:

lipo battery pack construction

Anode: aluminum foil current collector. Metal oxide active material (NMC, NCA, LCO, LFP). Binder (PVDF – Polyvinyladine Fluoride). Conductive carbon (Acetylene black, Vulcan , graphite )

Cathode: copper current collector. Graphite active material. Binder (PVDF, or CMC/SBR — carboxymethyl cellulose and styrene butadiene rubber). Conductive carbon.

Separator: polypropylene film, ionically conductive but electrically insulating, e.g. Celgard

Electrolyte: carbonate solvents including ethylene carbonate (EC), dimethyl carbonate (DMC), diethyl carbonate (DEC), propylene carbonate (PC). Lithium salt, eg lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6)

Pouch material: aluminum with polymer coating.

Tabs: aluminum cathode tab, nickel anode tab

Construction: double sided anode and cathode sheets are stacked and wrapped in separator, sometimes in Z-fold pattern. Anode and cathode Electrode stack tabs are ultrasonically welded together, placing them in series. Anode and cathode tabs are further welded to external tabs (Al or Ni, see above). Welded stack is packaged in 3-side sealed pouch, filled with electrolyte, then 4th side is sealed in vacuum pouch step.

How to safety discharge batteries

The batteries make our life more convenient, as the electric power, we should use them safety. Last week, we talk about how to charge lipo battery, from the article you have learned charge lipo battery is not easy thing, we should take more carefully. Today, we will give you some advises about how to discharge batteries.

1. Don’t discharge Batteries at amperage rates higher than specified on Batteries’ labels.

2. Don’t allow the temperature of Batteries to exceed 140°F during discharge. Adequate cooling for Batteries is required, especially when discharging at or near maximum rates.

3. Don’t discharge Batteries to voltage below which they are rated by the manufacturer when measured under load (connected to the vehicle or a charger capable of discharge). Batteries discharged to a voltage lower than the lowest approved voltage may be damaged, resulting in loss of performance and potential fire when Batteries are charged.

4. Don’t discharge battery to a level below 3V per cell under load.

For Tattu series batteries which are used for Unmanned Aircraft System, The recommended cut off voltage is 3.5V per cell.

5.Don’t leave battery unattended during the discharging process. During the discharging process, user should monitor the process constantly and react to potential problem that may occur.

6. In case of emergency, discontinue the process immediately, disconnect the battery, place it in a safe area, and observe it for approximately one hour. This may cause the battery to leak and the reaction with air may cause the chemicals to ignite, resulting in a fire. A safe area should be outside of any building or vehicle and away from any combustible materials. A battery can still ignite even after one hour.

7. User need to check the conditions of the battery before use it or discharge it. Stop using it if user found the cells are not balanced or cells are puffing or weeping.

And finally, don’t over discharge the battery, over discharge the battery maybe let the battery damage or fire, so please take more carefully to discharge batteries

how to charge lipo batteries

When you saw the article title, may be you will laugh: charge lipo battery is so easy. Connect the battery to charger is drone. Is it really easy? Let us to see the professionals give the complete charge lipo battery needing attention.

1. Only use charger designed for lithium polymer/Lion battery. Do not use a NIMH/ NICD/ LIFEPO4/ LEAD ACID charger. If the charger can support different battery types. Be absolutely sure to select the Lithium polymer (Lipo) mode on the charger. Failure to do so may cause a fire, which may result in personal injury and property damage.

2. User should Always charge Batteries in an open area away from flammable materials, liquids and surfaces.

3. Never charge Batteries inside of the model.

4. Never charge batteries below freezing (0°C, 32°F)

5. Never charge Batteries that are hot to the touch (above 100° F). DO NOT handle Batteries until they are cool.

6. User should Always set the charger to the proper cell count and/or voltage listed on Batteries’ labels.

7. User should Always set the charger to the amp charge rate as listed on Batteries’ labels.

The charger should never be set to charge Batteries at a rate greater than 1C (One (1) times the capacity of Batteries in amp hours) unless another C rate is specified in the manufacturer’s product documentation or the rate is preset as part of a specific battery and charger combination. DO NOT alter the charge rate once charging has begun.

8. Never overcharge Batteries beyond the capacity listed on Batteries’ labels.

9. Never overcharge batteries over their rated maximal voltage (4.2V/cell for LiPo).

10. It must choose series charging if two or more battery packs be connected in series for using.

11. Use suitable and good quality chargers, please don’t use cheap and low quality chargers, use the professional Lithium polymer charger to charge the Gens ace & Tattu battery. When charging, please make sure the surroundings is clean, without sundries around. Don’t charge without monitoring. Using lipo sack is suggested when charging to ensure the charging safety. Stop charging timely when the battery is fully charged. Do not connect the charger and the battery for a long time when the battery is fully charged. We will not be responsible for any personal in jury and property lost or any kind accident that caused by improper charging.

The type of ESC and Tattu ESC

How many ESC (electronic speed controller) types? Maybe you have been confused by this question. Today we will help you to clearly know more about ESC.

1. ESC types

#1 Brushed and brushless

For base on motor, which can be divided into brushed and brushless. It according to the control signal to adjust the speed of the motor.

For their connection, usually goes like this:
- The ESC input line connected to the battery;
- The output of the ESC line (brushed have two lines, brushless have three lines) connected to the motor;
- ESC signal lines connected to the receiver.

What’s the difference between brushed and brushless ESC?

Brushed Motor and Brushless Motor is like Hub and Switch in Computer Network. Brushed Motor is just a normal motor where it work by direct current/voltage (We only focusing in DC area. NO AC Motor)

#2 Blheli, simonk and kiss firmware

ESC program is divided into open source and not open source, For base on open source firmware, there are 3 main types of firmware that you can get on your ESC, which can be divided into blheli, simonk and kiss firmware.

#3 BEC and UBEC

BEC stands for Battery Elimination Circuit. In practice, this simply means that ESCs with a BEC are able to output a constant voltage and so power the equipment on board your flying platform, such as your receiver, servos or flight controller. Delivers power for your Rx and servos at ~5v (but usually no more than 2A-3A).

UBEC stands for universal BEC or sometimes ultimate BEC, which is typically a switch mode unit which is capable of reducing the voltage from 4s+ packs to the required ~5v, and can deliver as much as 10A to power many, big, digital servos and your Rx.

2. What type of ESC do quadcopters use?

BLHeli is the most common firmware being run on multirotor ESCs today. It’s popularity is pushed further by support for what is called “BLHeli passthrough” built into any CleanFlight based flight controllers. What this allows you to do is to program and update all of your multirotors ESCs from the computer connection to the flight controller.

For BEC or UBEC, you really need to make sure which one you have or are buying if your goal is to have the better switching mode instead of the more problematic linear mode type BEC. Like a lot of things in RC, you have to study the words and numbers a little (types, input voltages, output voltages, ratings, etc.) to make sure you get what you need.

Brushless motors are typically 85 – 90% efficient or more, higher efficiencies for a brushless electric motor, of up to 96.5%, whereas DC motors with brushgear are typically 75 – 80% efficient. Brushless DC motors are commonly used where precise speed control is necessary. So base on the brushless motors, you should have to choose the matching ESC, which also is brushless ESC.

At http://www.genstattu.com They are confirming that they are Top Pilot packs, and They are confirming that they are Graphene packs, Which Mean It can Handle More Than 500 cycles(when properly use with care.) so I know we’re already in for a treat with their performance.

I like 12Awg grade wire for some serious amp draws. The Lenght Of Cable is not too short and not too Long. It can be easily useable On 200-240 class quads. It also Comes With Balance connector (protector) which is good to use to save balance lead from props and easily asseable When charging Them. Weight is About 182 (for 1550mah) I honestly use this lipo For race Weight to power ratio is like 180grms of lipo on beast setup.

TESTING

I don’t have ant Testing Equipment But i have other lipos like bonka, turnigy etc To Compare With I Gernally Fly them on a course and checking for battery sag, Internal Resistance,Build Quality.

Build Quality- As the Tattu is Known For good quality lipos they Directly reflects when You feel then In hand.

Checkig Sag & Overall Performance-I Fly Them around 13-15 cycles each last week. during heat i droped cells to 2.9-3.0v.After 1hr when i Reached Home I Charged Them I was Surprised To see no puff . They are True 1550MAh.This means that the 1550mAh genuinely gives you around 1550mAh if you leave around 20% in the pack as you should. They are Cold when They Land.

Internal Resistance-Comparing Them to Other Lipos They Are Very Minimal IR. I got 2-3ohms in Each cell in R-LINE & Got 3-6ohms per cell In Bonka. The Same Charger Was Used to ensure the results were kept fair.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

They are a little heavy Compared to 1500mah Lipos (of course Coz its 1550mah), but provide solid and constant power throughout the pack but the fact the power is still there after 30 seconds Of Serious PunchOuts Thats Why it doesn’t matter. Because of the extra capacity I was expecting them to perform not so good, but I am amazed to say I think they performed better. I had pulled on them in my 2:30 to 3 minute flights. From My First Cycle To Last Cycle They performed same which is incredible.. Now i know the Hype. I Will Definatly Use them In Race..

HAPPY FLYING
